What is Hive?
Hive is a decentralized blockchain with fast, feeless transactions. It supports social applications, games, and a USD-pegged stablecoin (HBD) with built-in savings interest. The rate is set by elected witnesses and is currently around 15% APR.
What is HBD?
Hive Backed Dollars (HBD) is a stablecoin designed to track the US dollar. When placed in savings, HBD earns interest paid by the blockchain itself — no middleman, no counterparty risk beyond the protocol.
Why do Hive accounts need to be sponsored?
Creating a Hive account requires on-chain resources (Resource Credits). Rather than charging new users, existing community members can claim free account tokens and use them to sponsor newcomers through the invite system.
Can I customize the invite cards?
The card generation tools are open source and can be forked to customize designs, branding, and messaging. Multi-tenant support with built-in custom designs is planned for a future release.
What does it cost to run my own service?
The gift card service is lightweight and runs on minimal infrastructure (e.g. a small Fly.io instance). Account creation uses claimed account tokens, which Hive accounts earn for free over time based on their staked HP.
Where do new users land after claiming?
By default, standard invites guide users into Peakd, the most popular Hive front-end. Robust invites (for restricted regions) use the Propolis browser wallet instead. Custom post-claim destinations (e.g. Ecency, InLeo) are planned for a future release.
I lost my keys. How do I restore my account?
If you have the backup QR code (from the screenshot or printout you made during setup) and your gift card PIN, you can recover all your keys using the restore tool. Scan the QR code, enter your PIN, and your keys will be decrypted.
Does this work in restricted countries?
Yes. The system includes an obfuscating proxy layer and encrypted endpoint discovery so that the onboarding flow works even where Hive nodes are blocked. No VPN or app installation required.
